Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs decides to terminate Visapoint

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic decided to terminate Visapoint, the system for electronic registration for visa application. Applicants will submit their applications directly to embassies, spokeswoman of the Ministry Michaela Lagronova told CTK, the Czech News Agency. Visapoint has been repeatedly criticized by Czech employers and human rights organisations for allowing visa-trading.

'The MFA has decided to make changes in this area, taking into account several factors, above all the expiration of the term of the agreement with the Visapoint system provider,' Michaela Lagronova said. Those interested in obtaining Czech visas will be able to submit their applications again on 24 November, by e-mail, phone or in person at embassies, Lagronova added. In the period between 31 October and 24 November, applications that have already been submitted will be processed, she added.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been using Visapoint since 2009. Visa and long-term residents in the Czech Republic have been able to arrange an appointment at embassies online.
