Discussion on Public Support at the Senate

At its plenary session, the Senate discussed a governmental proposal of amendments to the Act on Public Support and the Act on Scientific Support in the first reading (zákon o veřejné podpoře a zákon o podpoře vědy a výzkumu), passed by the Chamber of Deputies on 2 May. The amendment is heading to the Committee on Economy, Agriculture and Transportation. The Senate should discuss and later pass the Bill till 20 June; otherwise it will be assumed that the Senate has no amendments.
The aim of the amendment is to set up a central register of public support to private subjects so that public support could be granted appropriately and efficiently; according to the EU directives, public support should not exceed a certain limit. Furthermore, the amendment stipulates a significant role of the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) as a controller of the granting process and assessing support applications.

According to the Rules of Procedure, the Senate should pass a resolution in 30 days.
