Road transport: New European Driving Licence

A standard European format has been introduced for driving licences issued across the EU. They will have a new format of a plastic card with a photo and standard information in the size of normal credit card. This initiative is a part of a broader package of measures called 3rd EU Driving Lincence Directive, which aims at enhanced security of free movement and better road safety across the EU.

Existing licences are not invalid, but all the older formats should be replaced by the new format no later than 2033. The new driving licence includes also a number of security features and it is backed up bythe creation of a European electronic data exchange system. New driving licence can be obtainedalso on request and no additional testing is needed in order to get one.
