The EU at the G20 Summit in Mexico

The global economy and a framework for growth are the main topics on the agenda of the G20 Summit, which will be held on 18 and 19 June in Los Cabos, Mexico. The EU will be represented by both presidents Barroso and Van Rompuy, as the euro area sovereign debt crisis will be high on the agenda.

Additionally, further important topics will be discussed – e.g. strengthening of financial system, a new growth initiative called Los Cabos Action Plan for Growth or the fight against rising protectionism. The first G20 summit was held in November 2008 in Washington. Since then, the G20 leaders meet twice a year. The EU is a full member, along with other economies like China, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey or India.
