The Ministry of Interior announced an amendment to the Act on European Citizen Initiative

The Ministry of Interior has put forward an amendment to the Act on European Citizen Initiative (zákon o Evropské občanské iniciativě). The amendments has been put forward in accordance with the gradual strive of the European Union to further proclaim the “European” people by enlarging the scope of institutional instruments for citizens’ self-promotion. The amendment aims at more goals; firstly, the amendment implements important provisions of the Act on Control (kontrolní řád). Secondly, the amendment regulates the role of the Ministry of Interior concerning the European Initiative. The Ministry should cooperate in providing details of citizens. Those details should confirm the reliability of the initiative. For that purpose, the Ministry may make use of citizens (or alternatively electoral) register to confirm the initiative.

The Government discussed the Bill on 6 November; the Bill should head to the Chamber of Deputies (the first session should take place at the end of November)
