The Troika on the Greek review mission

The representatives from the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and the European Central Bank started their mission in Athens just a few days ago. However, they decided that they would take a brief pause from their discussions with the authorities on the program review. Their return back to Athens is planned in about a week. By that time, the Greek government must approve another set of reforms to lower its deficit.

The Troika’s mission in Athens found out that this year’s budget deficit might be twice as high as expected – app. €20 bn. Only if Greek government succeeds in lowering the budget deficit, it can receive another tranche of international loan from the IMF and the EU.
