Tech Trends 2020: Disruptive Architecture, “Emotion AI”, and Ethical Intersections

Architects are responsible for designing and implementing technology infrastructure in businesses; however, 54% of organisations report gaps in skills or headcount; only 10% of them have enough architects on their teams.

“Companies are beginning to realise that proper system architecture, from business architecture via IT architecture to technology systems, will be more important than ever before. Nowadays, the role of architects is crucial for being able to keep up with the technological progress, which breaks all existing rules in business. Young players on the market have understood this and thus benefit from their competitive advantage,” says Štěpán Húsek, the Partner of Deloitte´s technology consulting.

This year, Emotion AI will respond to the demand for technology that is capable of understanding people better. Several organisations will implement emotional factors of machine learning into their systems, which will not only succeed in recognising user´s voice and face, but also their current emotional state. Methods such as Eye-tracking or Facial Coding will be utilised for measuring emotional response.

“As part of Deloitte's move to the new building, we built a modern UX Lab and equipped it with the technology where it is possible to try it out,” adds Štěpán Húsek.

Companies across the world stand at an ethical intersection. Technology is increasingly changing business as a whole and can therefore be a double-edged weapon in terms of reputation.

“Technology represents an outstanding means of strengthening public trust in an organisation. At the same time, however, they could become a liability that would destroy a long-term foundation of trust. Companies nowadays do not consider building trust a PR tool, but an essential pillar of their brand and business as a whole. Thus, processes which could answer ethical question concerning new technology will be created,” adds Štěpán Húsek from Deloitte.
