Competitiveness: Statistical Office: more guests, less spent nights

The Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) announced preliminary statistics of tourist industry. The statistics reveals that in 4Q/2013 7.6 million of guests were accommodated which is a 1.1 per cent year-on-year increase. Further, 2.9 million were foreign guests (an increase of 3.9 per cent y/y). Foreign guests are still prevailing over domestic guests. The CZSO also announced that in the structure of foreign guests the Germans dominated (343 thousand of guests). Russians (190 thousand of guests; the biggest increase) and Slovaks belong to the first three foreign nationalities.

The biggest increase of accommodated guests was in North-West Bohemian Region (Ústí nad Labem) and Central Moravian Region (Olomouc). The CZSO recorded a remarkable increase in health resort tourism (183 thousand of guests, 9.6 per cent y/y).

Overall in 2013, tourist industry faced a slight increase of 1.6 per cent accommodated guests in 2013/2012. However, there was a drop of 0.6 per cent of spent nights in 2013/2012.

The CZSO intends to check the overall statistics in April, 2014.
