A New Set of Recommendations for the Czech Republic

The EC released a set of recommendations for the next 12 months for each of 27 Member States. These country-specific recommendations are based upon the budgetary and economic plans each country had to submit earlier this year as a part of the European semester. The biggest challenge of the EU 27 stays restructuring of the labour market and lowering the budget deficits.

As for the Czech Republic, the EC set a clear priority – lowering the budget deficit. This should be achieved through more efficient tax collection as well as through a new approach towards labour taxation system. Three other fields of policy caught the eye of the EC – pension reform, reform of the system of education and a recent public service reform (the Public Procurement Act).
