A major Czech corruption case came to an end on 23 July when a judge sentenced a former cabinet member and regional governor to 8 ½ years in prison. David Rath, who three years ago was arrested while in possession of a wine box stuffed with 7 million crowns ($284,000), was convicted of “manipulating public tenders, taking bribes, and harming the financial interests of the EU.” Read more.
